There stood the gates. Precisely where he had told him they would be. Precisely as he had described them. He read the inscription found there above the gates again, out loud this time. "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate". Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. The words resonated around him, part warning part incantation. He felt a cold emptiness suddenly invade his body, and a veil of despair, dread descended over him. Dante had warned him about this feeling as well. Not in his worst nightmares would Guillermo have expected to find himself here, but then again, his life had become a maelstrom of torments, torture and misery. His only chance for peace was to be found at the end of this thread, that lead through these gates, and into the very depths of Hell.
